CINEMA IN JAZZ

The repeatedly sold-out Cinema in Jazz returns on October 1 with a new programme and even more sparkle. This is an exciting encounter between two art forms that carry emotion, innovation and history within them — jazz and cinema. The project reveals how the sound world of film music perceives and refracts the spirit of jazz, turning familiar melodies into something new, expressive and one of a kind. From the first steps of sound cinema to the great musicals, jazz has left its unmistakable mark on the atmosphere, the rhythm and the way stories come alive on screen. The programme features film classics in a new light — in jazz arrangements that give them fresh colour and unexpected brilliance. With each new edition Cinema in Jazz expands its repertoire with new works, arrangements and musical surprises. This time the audience will hear jazzed-up versions of Arabian Nights and One Jump Ahead from Aladdin, Something Stupid, A Night in Tunisia, I Get a Kick Out of You, Nature Boy, City of Stars, as well as Poor Unfortunate Souls and Under the Sea from The Little Mermaid, alongside more favourite themes and original compositions. Now a full-scale show, Cinema in Jazz brings together music, imagery and theatricality, turning the stage into a space where cinema comes alive in person. The voices of this cinema-and-jazz story are Valeria Vasilenko and Boyan Todorov, together with Iliya Lazarov — piano, Kristiyan Petrov — double bass, Kaloyan Pramatarov — drums and Alek Vitkov — trumpet.
